Project Backstory | I first met Negesti—then known as Dana—during our undergraduate years at Trinity College, though we had unknowingly grown up just blocks apart in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Before college, we were ships passing in the night, navigating the dense currents of New York City without ever sharing a scholastic port of passage. By the time we arrived in Trinity’s Class of 2014, we became fast friends. Dana majored in Theater and Dance, and I distinctly remember her choreographing a breathtaking piece for the Trinity College Gospel Choir’s spring concert—just days before its debut during graduation season. She brought light and fire to every movement, reflecting the humor, energy, and grace she shared with us across the years.

What We Did | Across three photographic sessions, Dana and I captured both her performance spirit and her effervescent regality. Negesti Moves is a dancer, performer, educator, and business owner. Upbound Content captured her 2014 performance, while ZAMA Creative provided photography services for two portraiture sessions—one in-studio and one in an urban landscape—each reflecting her artistry and vision.

WGRAC Vagain Monologues

Aim

Capture the powerful performance of Trinity College students rendition of Vagina monologues

Record, Edit, Publish, & Promote

Project Backstory | In 2014, the Women & Gender Resource Action Center (WGRAC) at Trinity College sought someone to handle cast portraits and event capture for that year’s performance of The Vagina Monologues. The task required not only technical skill but also a sensitivity to the subject matter. As a senior with an expanding portfolio and new equipment, I took on the project, grateful for the opportunity to support a production so profoundly tied to the movement against violence towards women.

What We Did | Using an adjacent hallway to the performance space as an impromptu portrait studio, I worked with a modest lighting setup and plenty of post-production care. My tools were basic, but the results reflect how thoughtful use of even budget equipment can yield compelling images. The following evening, I documented the performance itself, allowing the gravity of the monologues and the power of the cast’s delivery to speak for themselves.

The Framework | Aim • Audit • Act

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler, first performed off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in 1996. This powerful production weaves together first-person monologues, each recounting deeply personal and diverse feminine experiences. From themes of sexual identity and self-discovery to sensitive issues like assault, puberty, reclamation, and mental health, these stories—rooted in real-life accounts—confront the complexities and nuances of womanhood with unflinching honesty.
